What’s a Blame the Butler Custom Mystery Party?

It’s a custom mystery written to your specifications. You have the ability to pick all the elements of your party. You can name the characters, choose the crime, decide the setting, or let us do all the work for you. You can tell us your characters' jobs, who you want to be the victim (no real names here, please). We will write a mystery party including your selections.

What if you only want to pick some elements? We will schedule a 30-minute call to walk you through the process and help you with the possibilities.

Once you’ve purchased your custom mystery, you'll just need to fill out as much as you can of the online questionnaire and schedule a 30-minute call with the mystery writer to finalize your selections. We need 30 days to deliver your mystery with character dossiers, a party guide, and clues.

Since a custom mystery takes 30 days from finalization of the elements, we ask that you plan your party date accordingly.

Because Blame the Butler Custom Mystery Parties are completely bespoke, there is a limited number. There may be a wait time. Send us a note if you need a particular date and we’ll see what we can do.

For a limited time, you can secure a custom mystery for $695, discounted from the regular price of $895. We provide a $100 discount for those who allow us to change the names in the mystery and post it for sale on our site six months after delivery.

If these parties were movies, they would be G-Rated, so while there will be a murder before the party starts, and there may be references to players having an affair with one another, if you choose that, there is no violence or sex that takes place during the party. That’s a different website.

The CRIME: Do you want your party story to feature a fake character being murdered, or a valuable object being stolen?

The VICTIM: Who would you like to be the victim of the crime? This person should be fake and not attending the party.

The CULPRIT: Do you want to select the murderer? If so, which character would you like to be the murderer? Do you want the murderer to have an accomplice? If you want it to be a surprise, let us know that.

The SETTING: Where would you like this mystery to take place? (At the beach in Hawaii? At a football game tailgate? At book club? During a bridal shower? A golf course, a big mansion, a forest, your family lake house). Choose your own place or we can mak

The THEME: Is there a theme? Birthday party? Bachelorette? A specific holiday? Family reunion?

The REVEAL: Do you want to know whodunnit? Or would you like to play along and be surprised?

The LOGISTICS: Is this party on ZOOM or Teams, or in person?

The SUSPECTS: Please let us know how many will be attending the party. We only need to know those guests who will play a character in the mystery.

Each character will have a dossier with their name (it’s more fun not to use real names), a character description including a day job, secrets, an affectation, and suggested wardrobe. You can tell us elements that you’d like included in each characters’ dossier. For any information you leave blank, we will round out the character for you.
